Chroreographer’s Dance to ‘WAP’ Goes Viral After Cardi B Herself Shares It

Social media may be a lot of things, but one thing it has the power to do is make someone who was previously unknown at least temporarily famous. Before YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and the like, people weren’t able to easily share their talent with the world. Now, anyone from anywhere can post a photo or a video, and the rest is history.

On August 7, 2020, rappers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion released the song WAP. Later that same day, a choreographer from Guam named Brian Esperon released a YouTube video with some pretty impressive dance moves to that same song.

Word of the video spread, and Cardi B herself tweeted a clip of the video writing, “My back hurt watching it .Let me try it.”

One month later, there are many, many videos of people imitating Esperon’s dance moves. We’re talking everyone from men, women and even people in costume.

@alanafischer98I told my roommate that I learned a new dance and wanted her opinion on it. Enjoy💀 ##WaitForTheGreats ##wapchallenge ##HomeCooking ##fypppp ##college♬ WET AS FART – thejacksonjansen

Esperon told NBC News, “The fact that it made it so big that it got to Cardi B herself is super insane.”

Even though it has been a month since Esperon released his now viral dance, he is still in shock at its success. “Me coming from a small island on Guam … and Cardi seeing it — I’m still trying to process it.”

Although many people are doing the WAP challenge and posting their videos on social media, not everyone knows that Esperon is the creator of the dance moves. He is a little concerned that he’s not getting credit for the now famous dance, and on the flip side, he is also concerned that he will be known only for the WAP dance. He has created many other dances and plans to create many, many more.

Esperon said, “I do love this dance, and I do love where it’s taking me and how much it’s helping me in my career, but I don’t want this to be the last dance you ever see from me.”

His ultimate goal is to be a choreographer for Beyonce. Currently, he works at Skip Entertainment Co. as an instructor.
