Chris Rock Finally Alludes to Oscars Incident Onstage At Sold-Out Show In Baltimore

The 94th Oscars were quite the show. In case you missed it, perhaps the biggest event was when Will Smith went up on stage and punched host Chris Rock right in the face.

Smith was outraged after Rock made a joke about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith had been suffering from alopecia, and Rock laughed about her shaved head, saying, “Jada, I love ya. ‘G.I. Jane 2’ – can’t wait to see it. Alright.”

After smacking Rock, Smith returned to his seat, and yelled back at Rock, “Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth.” Rock defended himself by saying, “It was a ‘G.I. Jane’ joke,” but in that moment, Smith couldn’t take a joke. He repeated himself, but louder this time. Rock responded, “I’m going to, okay?”

Rock went about the rest of the show as if nothing happened. He even decided that he wasn’t going to press charges against Smith, and has remained relatively quiet about the incident since, besides a few jokes here and there (For example, after the slap, he had told the camera, “That was a greatest night in the history of television”).

However, it’s been a little while since the show has aired, and conversations surrounding the incident have seemingly started to die down. And yet—finally—Rock alluded that he was a little angry about the whole thing, understandably so! At a recent sold-out show in Baltimore, his first line that he spoke was about the punch—a very unexpected joke from the audience.

Rock apparently walked out onto stage in front of the 2,500+ people in the crowd and stated, “I’m alright I’m alright…healed from the nicks and bruises…for the most part.”

He never elaborated, but it was obvious what he was referring to (at least, if you don’t live under a rock!).

Later in the show, the slap was referenced again but in a less-planned, more comical way. Someone from the audience tweeted about what happened, which involved Rock asking a woman what her name was.

“I went to see Chris Rock last night and he was doing a joke and asked a lady in the front row to help out. He asked her, ‘What’s your name?’ She said, ‘Jada’….he said, ‘sit yo a** down.’ The place erupted.”

We’ll never know if the woman was joking or not, but either way—pretty hilarious!

What did you think of Smith slapping Rock? Do you think it’s too soon for jokes?
