Ash Wednesday, and consequently Lent—when Christians who celebrate give up certain a certain luxury of their choice for 40 days—is quickly approaching on March 6.
On top of giving something up, another rule of Lent is that people 14 years or older must abstain from any meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, and all of the Fridays of Lent. You can then go back to your normally scheduled eating program on Easter, which this year is April 21.
Though the meaning behind Lent is valuable, many people still have trouble giving up meat—especially if you’re a Chick-fil-A fan. After all, you’re definitely not allowed any original chicken sandwiches, chick-n-strips, or nuggets during the meat-free days of Lent.
So how will you cope? How will you handle the cravings? How will you…SURVIVE?
Luckily, Chick-fil-A is way ahead of us. They chain will be bringing back their cod filet sandwich just in time for the holiday. In fact, it’s only in time for Lent: The fish sandwich will only be available March 6 through April 20.
On top of that, Chick-fil-A is also bringing back the deluxe fish sandwich and boxed 2- and 3-count fish entrees and meals, both served with waffle potato fries.
This isn’t the first time a fast-food chain has added a fish option to their menu for Lent. In the 60s, one Ohio McDonald’s operator noticed that burger sales were consistently down during Fridays of Lent, so they introduced a “Hula Burger” made with pineapple in place of meat. That didn’t go over so well, so they began to serve Filet-O-Fish, which of course was a hit!
Chick-fil-A’s limited-time fish options will only be offered at select locations, so be sure to check whether your local chain is offering it before you get your hopes up. (You can confirm here.)
Do you observe Lent? Are you excited Chick-fil-A will be bringing back their fish sandwich for the holiday?
