Chef Boyardee Recalls Nearly 3,000 Pounds of Microwavable Meals Due to Misbranding

From spaghetti and meatballs to chicken Alfredo and lasagna, Chef Boyardee has always made Italian specialities for kiddos a heck of a lot easier. Some criticize the “glop in a can,” but kids have got to eat and parents don’t always have time to make their own meals!

However, we do have some bad new s for Chef Boyardee lovers. If you have kids in the home who love a good Chef Boyardee meal, we hate to tell you this, but you might’ve been serving them something completely different than you thought.

Conagra Brands, Inc. has just issued a recall of approximately 2,871 pounds of chicken and rice flavored Chef Boyardee products. While these products were labeled as chicken and rice, they actually contained beef ravioli products. Someone in production royally screwed up the contents!

Due to the wrong food put in the cans, that means the recalled items also have undeclared allergens, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) clarified. So the products that were recalled may contain milk and wheat, which are known allergens, but these aren’t listed on the product label. This can be largely detrimental to someone with an allergy.

The products in question are 7.5 oz. canned microwavable bowls of “Chef BOYARDEE rice with chicken & vegetables” on the label, and a package code of 210090151050045L, and ‘BEST BY’ date of Jul082020 on the bottom of the bowl.

The specific bowls being recalled have “EST. 794” printed on the bottom and were shipped to three states: Kentucky, Florida, and New York.

The misbranding issue was discovered after numerous customers called in to the firm to complain that when they opened their chicken with rice and vegetables, it was actually beef ravioli.

They were made aware on March 8, but luckily, there haven’t been any confirmed reports of people getting sick after eating these recalled Chef Boyardee products. However, if you’re concerned about any possible affects, the FSIS urges you to call your healthcare provider as soon as possible.

Additionally, customers who purchased the recalled meals should not eat them. The FSIS says to either throw them away or return them to where you bought it to get your money back.

This isn’t the only recall to happen recently. The Hometown Food Company has also just issued a recall on certain Pillsbury Unbleached All Purpose Flour products due to possible salmonella contamination. You can find the info to those recalled products here.

Additionally, there have been numerous beef recalls so far this year, with the most recent one on approximately 30,260 pounds of ground beef chubs products. The recall comes after it was made clear that the beef has possibly been contaminated with “extraneous materials.” Find the info for that one here.

Are you sick of all these recalls (no pun intended)? Were you affected by this Chef Boyardee one, or any recent ones?
