If you’ve ever tried to cut gluten out of your diet, or if you’ve ever tried to lower your carb intake, you know that giving up bread, pasta, tortillas, etc isn’t always easy. There are so many delicious things that taste so much better when you add carbs. And, sure, you can lettuce-wrap a burger, but it’s just not the same.
One of the few things we love even more than carbs is cheese. While cheese may or may not be the healthiest thing to it, we can argue that it’s healthier than a lot of carbs out there. It has protein in it, after all.
So, if you can relate to loving cheese and wanting to cut down on carbs without resorting to lettuce-wrapped tacos, you’re in luck. We’ve discovered that there’s a new alternative to lettuce, but this time it’s not for burgers. It’s for tacos, wraps, heck, why not, even hot dogs if you like.
We’re talking about the new cheese wraps that are being sold at places like Costco. Yes, you heard that right. Wraps made out of cheese. These are essentially a tortilla substitute.
The cheese tortillas come in 3 different flavors: parmesan, jarlsberg and cheddar. They are lactose free and gluten free. Basically, unless you’re a vegan, these are worth trying.
Each wrap is made from 100% cheese. According to the package, there isn’t any added starch, wheat, flour or fillers. There also isn’t any added sugar or additives. They’re just lightly baked sheets of cheese.
Um, yum.
We can just imagine making an Italian-style deli wrap with the parmesan flavor. Perhaps we’d try a ham and tomato wrap with the jarlsberg. The cheddar, now it’s taco time.
According to one person on Instagram, these wraps tend to fall apart when you put hot food inside them, so make sure you have a fork on hand when you dig into those tacos. No worries. We’re used to eating enchiladas and burritos with a fork anyway.
If your New Year’s Resolution has been getting a little dusty, perhaps these tortillas will reignite your willpower. Remember, cheese has protein, so these are healthy, or at least healthier than flour tortillas. Each wrap boasts 13 grams of protein and only 1 gram of carbs.
The wraps come in packs of either 4 or 10. We definitely think we need a Costco-size pack (10 wraps) in each flavor!
Which flavor cheese wrap will you try first? What are you going to wrap it around?
