If you want to avoid all of the addedpreservatives and calories in store bought butter (and you want to save a bit of money), did you know you can make your own butter at home with just 2 ingredients? All you’ll need is 1 quart of heavy cream (organic if you’d like) and 3/4 tsp of salt. That’s it!
Here’s what you do:
Pour cream into the mixer bowl, then add the salt. Using the paddle attachment, mix on high. When mixing, here’s what Healthy Food House says you’re looking for:
Continue mixing and check the consistency once in a while. At first, the mixture shall look like whipped cream, but later it will start to separate into butter and butter milk. You know that the butter is ready when it will clump on the paddle.
Strain your mixture in a colander. And as an added bonus, if you want buttermilk, just catch the buttermilk you strain and store in the fridge. Rinse off the excess buttermilk under cold running water. Shape your butter and keep it in your fridge for up to a month!
