There is still a lot that we don’t know about the novel coronavirus. What we do know is that some people get really sick and even die while other people have few to no symptoms. We also know that it can affect anyone and any age.
We also know the right things to do. Wear a mask. Social distance. Wash your hands. Is that enough?
Mary, who lives in Los Angeles, has had COVID-19 not once but twice. She first tested positive for COVID-19 in April. She wasn’t feeling well, and then a relative told her that she might have been exposed to the virus. She got tested, and when the test was positive, she self-quarantined for 14 days. She made a full recovery and tested negative for the virus in May.
Skip forward to June, and she tested positive for COVID-19 again, this time at the hospital. She had severe symptoms and went to the emergency room via ambulance. She ended up staying at the hospital for two weeks.
Mary told FOX 11, “People don’t believe me that I got it twice. But I have the one from the hospital and the one from April 15.”
Let that sink in. For many of us, we probably have the hope that if we happen to get COVID-19 we will never be able to get it again. Let this be a reminder that nobody should let their guard down, even if you have already had and recovered from COVID-19.
Mary is sharing her story to remind us all just how serious this virus is and to let us know that it appears that it is in fact possible to get COVID-19 more than once, even when you’re doing everything right. She doesn’t know what else she could have done to protect herself. She said, “I was following the orders since the beginning of March…wearing a mask, I was doing the gloves, the hand sanitizer. I was doing everything right…what did I do wrong?”
Watch the video below to hear Mary tell her story.
Mary isn’t the only one who has had COVID-19 more than once. Back in March, Rhea Conley wasn’t feeling well. She had the symptoms for COVID-19, but since there weren’t very many tests available at that time, she wasn’t able to get tested. However, later, Conley took an antibody test which showed that she had in fact had COVID-19. Yet, Conley wasn’t done with the virus. Watch the video below to hear what happened next.
Does it surprise you that several people have proof that they have had COVID-19 more than once? Mary shared that she “did everything right.” What else could she (or we) do to protect ourselves?
