Question: If you were planning a wedding, would you ever have your friends and family chip in to help pay for it? That leads us to our next question: If you had to cancel the wedding, would you give the money back or keep it for yourself?
One woman did the latter. This woman may be completely greedy—or a complete financial genius.
The woman posted to her Facebook page explaining how she had to cancel her upcoming wedding, but still wanted to give a shout out to everyone who helped raise money towards the big day.
“We thank each and every one of you for your generous early donations to our money fund,” she wrote. “Can you believe we have raised over $30,000? Unbelievable! Don’t worry, the money you’ve donated will not be spent in vain, but rather used toward a honeymoon in the coming months.”
That’s right even though people specifically donated money towards her wedding day, this woman assumed it would be totally ethical to use it for a trip instead, even though her wedding day is no longer happening.
To top it off, she explained in her post that after the honeymoon they will have to reevaluate the wedding date and then “re-open our money fund for any further gifts,” adding, “weddings are expensive!”
After thanking her family once again for their donations, the woman added that she’ll be updating her gift fund registry on Amazon if anyone would like to get them more gifts to take on their honeymoon.
A Reddit user uploaded a screenshot of the Facebook post, causing the story to go viral. Unsurprisingly, people were not very happy about it, calling her anything from insane to greedy, with someone even saying that they wanted “to see the rest of the family destroy her soul.” You can view the entire thread here.
What are your thoughts on how this woman reacted after canceling her wedding? Would you have kept the money or given it back to everyone?
