What It’s Actually Like to Have Breakfast (or Lunch) at Tiffany’s

Raise your hand if you’re a fan of the 1961 hit film Breakfast at Tiffany’s? It’s a truly iconic film based off the 1958 novel by Truman Capote.

And if you’re anything like we are, you swooned over not only the romance between Holly Golightly and Paul Varjak, but also that iconic opening scene where Audrey stands outside Tiffany’s & Co eating her Danish out of a paper bag, sipping her coffee. She’s dressed to impress, but stares into the luxurious store longingly, knowing that wealth isn’t in her reach.

Well now, nearly 57 years after the movie was produced, you can actually channel Audrey herself and literally eat breakfast at Tiffany’s. That’s right, the infamous jewelry store recently opened their Blue Box Café at its flagship store located on Fifth Avenue in midtown Manhattan. And it looks absolutely amazing.

The Blue Box Café was inspired by the hit film, and it shows. First off, to actually get to the café, you have to get in an elevator (with photos of luxurious teacups and table settings donned throughout) with a concierge. When you get to the floor with the café, a woman greets you by saying “Welcome to the fabulous fourth floor.” I mean, we’re going to go just for that, but we’re just saying.

The actual café is just what you’d expect: Their signature robins egg blue color is all along the walls and chairs—even the mugs and plates—and everything feels like you’re in one big luxurious Tiffany’s dream.

Besides the décor, the menu is out of this world. There are Danishes and coffee, of course, but it goes way beyond that. If you’re getting breakfast, you’ll start with coffee or tea and a croissant or berries, followed by your choice of a main dish: avocado toast, a buttermilk waffle, a coddled egg, or smoked salmon and a bagel. This will run you $32. Oh, you fancy, huh?

If you go for lunch (that’s right, there’s also Lunch at Tiffany’s), it’ll cost you $42 and includes a choice of a starter from chilled pea soup, burrata, kona kam pachi tartare, or a Belgian endive salad. You’ll follow with a choice of your main course from a chicken club sandwich, flatbread, beet salad, lobster salad, or halibut.

It doesn’t end there—you also have your option to have Tea at Tiffany’s, which will cost $52 per person. Choose from a selection of fine teas, plus a delicious variety of finger sandwiches (from herbed chicken to cucumber goat cheese and more). End your tea time on a sweet note with desserts such as a coconut brownie, key lime tart, or lemon jelly square, plus many others.

If you’d rather just go to Tiffany’s for dessert, they serve up all your favorite classics: cheesecake, chocolate mousse cake, cookies, ice cream, bread pudding, you name it. They even have what they call the “blue box celebration cake” for a birthday or anniversary celebration. It’s $49, but it’s the most instagrammable dessert you will ever eat, so it’s obviously worth it.

Additionally, the Blue Box Café serves a selection of wines by the bottle or glass, as well as specialty drinks such as the “emerald” (featuring honeydew, cucumber, parsley, apple and citrus) or the red opal spritz (cranberry, lime, and honey).

This probably isn’t a place you’ll be eating every day, but we highly recommend it if you’re a Breakfast at Tiffany’s fan or celebrating a special occasion. It’s truly a unique place to eat that’ll make you feel fancier than ever!
