What would you do if you just discovered you had a billion dollars in your bank account? When this happened to a Florida resident named Julia Yonkowski, she wasn’t thrilled. She didn’t start to make a list of everything she wanted to buy. And she didn’t go out and cash it all. Instead, she was very shocked and skeptical of it all. And honestly? Kinda scared.
“Oh my God, I was horrified. I know most people would think they won the lottery but I was horrified,” she said after she had tried to take money out of her account and checked her balance at Chase Bank, which revealed she had $999,985,855.94 in her account.

All she wanted to do was take out a mere $20 bill. However, the ATM she was wasn’t letting her do that. “When I put in for the $20, the machine came back and said we’ll give you the $20 but that’ll cause an overdraft and you will be charged and I said, ‘Oh just forget it,'” she said, knowing she had more than $20 in her account.

When she decided to grab a receipt, she saw the large number and was super confused. She knew if it sounded too good to be true, it probably was. Plus, she had remembered hearing about bank fraud similar to what she was dealing with, and she wasn’t about to go play with it.

“I know I’ve read stories about people that took the money or took out money, and then they had to repay it and I wouldn’t do that anyway because it’s not my money,” she said.

A representative for Chase Bank explained that the balance was an indicator of a fraud prevention method. Due to suspicious activity, it had appeared Julia was locked out of her account, which is why she was having trouble even taking just $20 out.

As of now, the money is still in her account and she is trying to get ahold of Chase Bank to help her sort it all out.

Julia is hoping that her story will help others become more aware if they ever find themselves in a similar situation. She warns not to spend the money since they’d probably have to pay it back.”It kind of scares me because you know, with cyber threats. You know, I don’t know what to think,” she said.
