Bill Gates Believes We Need to Stop Eating Beef to Avert Climate Change Disaster

Do we want the world to be a safe place to live? Do we want to avoid a climate change disaster? Do we want a safer, healthier plant where our children to grow up and thrive?

Of course we do, but the real question is if we’re willing to give up eating beef in order to make that happen.

Yes, beef. We’re talking about steak, hamburgers, meatloaf, and so many more foods that are loaded with beef. We have nothing against anyone who wants to be a vegetarian or vegan, but giving up beef for a lot of people isn’t all that appealing.

What if we told you that giving up beef could safe the world? That’s the truth according to Microsoft founder Bill Gates. He thinks that it would be a great idea if all countries that can afford to do so stop eating beef and switch to synthetic beef instead. This could be a plant-based product made to taste like beef or it could a product generated in a lab. Either way, Gates believes it’s better for the climate if we stop eating beef.

Why beef? Why not pork or chicken? It has to do with how cows digest food. It turns out that when cows digest food, there is bacteria in their digestive system that breaks down what they eat, and that bacteria produces methane. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is harmful for plant Earth, so if we stop breading cows for meat and there are fewer cows, that means less methane and a healthier, happier planet to call home.

Gates explained, “I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef. You can get used to the taste difference, and the claim is they’re going to make it taste even better over time. Eventually, that green premium is modest enough that you can sort of change the people or use regulation to totally shift the demand.”

Would you be willing to stop eating beef to save the planet? Have you found a beef alternative that you like as much as the real thing? Does it surprise you that cows produce methane when they digest their food?
