After the FDA gave the Covid-19 vaccine emergency use authorization for children ages 5-11, the CDC reviewed the data and gave the child-size vaccine approval as well. Over the weekend, many parents have been eagerly taking their children to vaccination sites to get the younger members of their families vaccinated.
Apparently human children aren’t the only ones getting vaccinated. A fictional character beloved by children and adults who grew up watching him on TV has also gotten the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. We’re talking about Big Bird.
Big Bird took to Twitter to “tweet” that he got his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. Apparently, the only side effect he is experiencing so far is that his “wing is feeling a little sore.”
I got the COVID-19 vaccine today! My wing is feeling a little sore, but it’ll give my body an extra protective boost that keeps me and others healthy.Ms. @EricaRHill even said I’ve been getting vaccines since I was a little bird. I had no idea!

Many people responded to Big Bird’s tweet including President Joe Biden who got his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on camera last year when he was still the President-elect.
Good on ya, @BigBird. Getting vaccinated is the best way to keep your whole neighborhood safe.

Other people commented that they remember when Big Bird got his very first vaccine, and he has been helping kids understand vaccinations for decades.
Pretty sure I saw you get your first one. You’ve been setting an example for a long time pic.twitter.com/N5Qe4rbqDH

Big Bird has been helping kids vaccinate since the beginning, I’m sure everyone remembers their lessons from Sesame Street, especially the ones about Kindness and taking care of each other. pic.twitter.com/L84kTjRWbV

Parents replied to Big Bird to share that their children recently got their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine as well.
Yay Big Bird! My little guy got his first Covid shot yesterday! He told me the shot would send a message to his “moon system” (immune system 🥰) to create Covid fighters! Great job! 💙

If you’re wondering why Big Bird didn’t get vaccinated months ago, it’s because he is only about 6 years old. Yes, we know he has been on TV for decades, but that’s not the point. He’s a fictional character, and a fictional character can be any age. In this case, he’s 6.
Some Twitter users pointed out that it’s odd that people are replying to Big Bird like he’s a real person.
It’s interesting to see adults responding to a fictional character as though they were real. Big Bird didn’t get vaccinated, folks, because Big Bird isn’t real.

If you have children in the 5-11 age group, do you plan to get them vaccinated for Covid-19? Does Big Bird getting vaccinated change your mind or your child’s mind one way or another?
