Long-Time ‘Bachelor’ Host Announces That He Will Step Away For “A Period of Time” After Interview Gone Wrong
The popular reality show “The Bachelor” made history this season by having it’s first ever Black bachelor, Matt James. That would seem like a great thing, like the show was moving in the right direction and listening to its viewers.
Then, an old photo of one of the current contestants, Rachael Kirkconnell, became a point of controversy. The photo of Kirkconnell is from 2018. She was at a fraternity party that had an antebellum plantation theme. Along with the other people at the party, she was dressed like an old-fashioned Southern Belle.
The long-time host of “The Bachelor,” Chris Harrsion, sat down for an interview with former “The Bachelorette” star and current “Extra” correspondent Rachel Lindsay. He talked about Kirkconnell’s photo. When Lindsay said that she didn’t think the party theme was “a good look,” Harrison defended Kirkconnell saying, “You’re 100% right in 2021. That was not the case in 2018. And again, I’m not defending Rachael. I just know that, I don’t know, 50 million people did that in 2018. That was a type of party that a lot of people went to. And again, I’m not defending it. I didn’t go to it.”
Since the photo became public, Kirkconnell released a statement on Instagram apologizing for the photo and for her past actions. Now, Harrison has released an apology for defending her actions. He is actually doing more than apologize. He is stepping away from hosting “The Bachelor” for “a period of time.”
