Baby videos rarely disappoint. When parents tell stories of their precocious little ones saying and doing things beyond their years, we don’t always believe them. Sure your 5-month-old can play Mozart on the piano. With one hand. Sure. Show us.
Good thing this mom caught it all on camera. Don’t be fooled. This cute baby girl isn’t a classical pianist, but she definitely knows how to behave in school. Why? She’s already mastered how to raise her hand. Both hands actually.
Berry, the model student in the video, is a little preoccupied with her food but has still managed to take time to answer Mom’s questions. “If your name is Berry, raise your hand,” she says. Both hands go up. That’s me!
Now, for the next one Berry seems to be a bit of a fence rider. Mom wants her to raise her hand if she’s the cutest baby ever, but Berry looks at her in hesitation. She’s definitely cute. We know she knows how to raise her hand, but why the uncertainty, Berry? You’ve got this. She’s like, “Um, is that me? Ok, let’s roll with it!”
Mom continues, but for this next question I would probably raise my hand just to keep from hurting her feelings. Who likes apples and peas? Think slowly and carefully on this one, Berry. We can see the look in your eye. The combination of peas (ick) and apples (yay) just doesn’t sound like a heavenly dish. Peas?
The presence of those stinky, wrinkly monsters make me skittish. Grade A torture food. Kudos to Berry for raising her hand, even if she’s only doing it for the apples. Ha! She even added an impressive dance. Go for it, girlie!
Ultimately, her best response comes when asked if she has food all over her face. Mom got more than a hand raise and huge smile. Judging by her enthusiasm, Berry is very proud of her accomplishment. Great job, baby girl, great job.
Watch the rest of the short video for more cuteness and baby-genius action. You can’t help but smile at Berry’s responses. Interestingly, babies between the fun ages of 8 and 12 months can understand simple questions and will let you know things in their own way. In addition to babbling, they communicate through gestures and imitation.
When babies learn to speak and acknowledge us, it’s an exciting time to witness their growth. I don’t blame Mom for catching this on video. But now we wonder if Berry is adept at any more universally appreciated gestures, like the thumbs up, rock on, or the sure-to-get-her-into-trouble: talk to the hand.
Published in 2014 by Berry’s family, the sweet baby in the video is now a school-aged talker that shares lots of opinions on the family’s YouTube channel. The chatty little girl is still super smart and cute, and more than likely, is a champion hand-raiser in her class. No doubt her teachers love her.
