Avocados are amazing— delicious, creamy, full of flavor and nutrients, and the perfect food to use in your healthier twists on typical favorites. Cooking Light shows us how to make Avocado Fries that preserve their creamy taste and fulfill our salty snack cravings.
Ingredients:
– 2 large egg whites
– 2 firm, ripe avocados
– 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
– 1/4 cup plain breadcrumbs
– 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
– 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
– 1 lemon, cut into 6 wedges
– Cooking spray (one you trust to spray onto your food)
Directions:
- Preheat broiler. Place a baking sheet in the oven while the broiler preheats.
- Combine the flour, salt and pepper in a shallow dish, and the breadcrumbs in another.
- In a small, separate bowl, whisk the egg whites until foamy.
- Halve each avocado and cut each half into 6 wedges. (Of course, remove the pits!) Take off the peels.
- Dip the avocado wedges first in the flour mixture, then in the egg whites, and finally in the breadcrumbs.
- Take the baking sheet out of the oven and coat it with cooking spray.
- Place the avocado slices on the baking sheet and coat with cooking spray.
- Broil for 5 minutes, until brown on top. Turn the wedges to the other side and broil for 2 more minutes.
- Serve with lemon wedges.
