After Ariana Grande Opens Up About Mental Health Struggles on Twitter, Jim Carrey Offers Her Some Sage Advice

Typically, the news tells us about celebrities who want to fight each other because they both wore the same thing to the Grammies, or another petty situation like that. It’s always refreshing to hear about stars who get along—especially when it comes to serious matters, like mental health.

Famous funny actor Jim Carrey and singer and songwriter Ariana Grande recently exchanged an adorable exchange on Twitter regarding depression. Though a somber topic, it was lovely, to say the least.

It started when Grande posted a quote from Carrey to her Instagram story. She wrote, “Depression is your body saying, ‘I don’t want to be this character anymore. I don’t want to hold up this avatar that you’ve created in the world. It’s too much for me. You should think of the word ‘depressed’ as ‘deep rest.’ Your body needs to be depressed. It needs deep rest from the character you’ve been trying to play.”

She went on to explain that she’s a diehard Jim Carrey fan, even noting that her AIM screen name was jimcarreyfan42 back in the day!

Jim Carrey was clearly touched by her post, and wrote her back an admirable response with some advice and well wishes:

“@ArianaGrande I read your lovely mention of me and things I’ve said about depression. A brilliant teacher and friend, Jeff Foster was OG on the ‘Deep Rest’ concept. I admire your openness. I wish you freedom and peace. I feel blessed to have such a gifted admirer. Happy Easter!” her wrote to her on the holiday.

If we tried to contact Jim Carrey through Twitter, we’re certain we weren’t going to hear back from him. But even someone as popular as Ariana Grande was shocked—and beyond thrilled—to get a response.

“I can’t process this or breathe hold on,” she wrote back to him, re-teweeting his response. Dead.

Once she was finally able to collect her thoughts, Grande responded back to him with a mix of gratitude and hilarity: “I don’t think [you] understand how much I adore [you] or what [you] mean to me,” she wrote. “Thank [you] for taking the time to share this [with] me. You are such an inspiration. I can’t wait to tattoo this tweet to my forehead. Sending you lots of love & all things happy.”

“jimcarreyfan42 is a very grateful girl rn,” she later added.

Why was Grande posting about depression in the first place? It was after she posted to her Twitter page about how she felt traveling around the country for her “Sweetener” tour. “I just feel empty and I wanna have more to say/better energy to give [you] and rn I don’t have anything,” she wrote.

It just goes to show that even celebrities are susceptible to mental health issues, though their lives may seem perfect to regular people sometimes. The fact that Jim Carrey responded to her in the manner he did just makes the whole situation even more human.

Are you a fan of Ariana Grade or Jim Carrey? How sweet is this exchange between these two celebs?
