Andy Cohen Speaks Out After His Drunken New Year’s Eve Rant Live On Air

If you were watching CNN’s broadcast on New Year’s Eve, you saw Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper hosting “New Year’s Eve Live.” The co-hosts kicked off the party by taking shots. While it may have been festive and celebratory, perhaps this was a bad idea. The alcohol seemed to be a little too much for Cohen to handle.

Cohen later described himself as drunk during the show, and he also explained that that’s why he made certain comments during the broadcast. Live on air he took shots as several famous people including Mark Zuckerburg and Bill de Blasio. For example, at one point when he was talking about Blasio, the former New York City mayor, he said, “The only thing that Democrats and Republicans can agree on is what a horrible mayor he has been.”

After the fact, Cohen said the only comments he regrets are the ones about Ryan Seacrest, who was hosting a competing New Year’s Eve broadcast in Time’s Square, “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”

During the live broadcast on CNN, Cohen said, “There’s a bunch of smoke coming from Ryan Seacrest’s group of losers that are performing behind us. If you’ve been watching ABC tonight, you’ve seen nothing, I’m sorry.”

Cohen, who described himself in an Instagram post as “a hair over-served” on New Year’s Eve, later said that he didn’t mean to insult Seacrest. On SiriusXM, he explained, “The only thing that I regret saying, the only thing, is that I slammed the ABC broadcast.” He added, “I really like Ryan Seacrest and he’s a great guy and I really regret saying that and I was just stupid and drunk and feeling it.”

Cohen added that he hopes Seacrest sees a clip of the CNN broadcast so that he knows what was actually said because he thinks the media took his comments out of context and made them out to be worse than they were. He explained, “The headlines about Ryan Seacrest are all like I trashed Ryan Seacrest and I really … I hope he hears the clip.”

There were some false reports that Cohen had been fired by CNN, but that is not true. CNN has confirmed that Cohen will be hosting the New Year’s Eve broadcast again next year.
