Alec Baldwin Reflects On Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting in 13-Minute Instagram Video

As another year comes and goes, most of us can’t help but reflect on the past year and the year to come. Some of us have had worse years than others—namely, Alec Baldwin, for one.

When Baldwin was filming his new western called Rust this year, the actor accidentally fired a prop gun, which seriously injured the film’s director, Joel Souza, and killed the director of photography, Halyna Hutchins. The tragic accident happened when Baldwin was practicing with the gun. He was preparing for a scene. Production for the film was put on hold and isn’t expected to resume.

Baldwin posted a nearly 13-minute video to his Instagram account on New Year’s Day sharing his hopes for 2022, noting that it’s going to have to be better than 2021 after the tragic incident that occurred. He captioned the video, “Another chance to let go of anything that is hurting us. Destroying us.”

Among all of the negativity, he did reflect on just how positive people have been toward hi and his situation, and how grateful he is to have that support. “I’ve had more people who have been kind and thoughtful and generous of spirit than I’ve had people who are malignant about the death Halyna Hutchins,” Baldwin said in the video. “I’m not afraid to say that, and to couch that in some euphemisms — somebody died very tragically. And I’ve gotten so much, I mean so much, goodwill from people. It’s just incredible.”

“This has been surely the worst situation I’ve ever been involved with and I’m very hopeful that the people in charge with investigating this whole thing get to the truth as soon as possible,” he added. “No one wants the truth more than I do.”

Baldwin continued to discuss his goals for the new year, including continuing to not let negativity affect him. Certainly, it’s hard after such a dreadful incident, but he seems very positive and hopeful.

The video was met with lots of positivity from fans.

“Your pain is palpable. Hoping you find peace in the New Year❤,” someone wrote.

“This is so lovely,” another person commented.

“You have a beautiful family and a blessed life, I wish you healing and strength, success and happiness,” another noted.
