In 2022, TODAY Show weatherman Al Roker disappeared from the show, and it was not immediately disclosed where he was. It turned out that he was in the hospital with life-threatening blood clots. Thankfully, the weatherman made a full recovery and was back on the show in January 2023, only then revealing how serious his condition was.

It’s now May 2023, and Roker has once again disappeared from the morning news program. Thankfully, this time it’s not because of a life-threatening medical situation. Instead, it is because of a surgery that was planned in advance.

Roker recently had knee replacement surgery. This is the second time he has had this operation.

One week ago, Roker shared a video on Instagram saying that he was “a little less than three day away from getting this left knee replaced. It’s a replacement of a replacement.”

Roker’s surgery took place on May 9th. Just one day later, Roker shared a couple updates about how the knee replacement surgery and his recovery are going.

On May 10, he posted a video of the sunrise from his hospital room set to the song “Lovely Day.” He captioned the post, “Feeling grateful and #hopeful on this #firstday with my #newknee Who knew?”

Later the same day, Roker posted another video. In this video, Roker is walked around the hospital with the help of a walker, and he’s working on physical therapy with his new knee. He captioned this post, “Up and walking this morning on the #newknee #stepbystep thanks to @drdavidmayman Wearing a negative pressure pump to help facilitate wound healing.”

Roker’s fans, followers and coworkers are impressed at how well he’s walking already. TODAY Show anchor Dylan Dreyer commented, “Already walking better than before!! Heal quick my friend!!”

While Roker recovers, he will be absent from the TODAY Show.

Does it surprise you that Roker was up and walking around just one day after his knee replacement surgery? How long do you think it will take for him to make a full recovery?
