Whether you are getting ready to sell your house or just looking to make it appear nicer from the outside, you may be scrambling to get money together for home makeover projects. DIY Life tells us that there’s no need to scramble, for there are some projects within anyone’s budget that will make a big difference. Each of the projects listed below will cost you less than $50 and give your home’s curb appeal a boost. Check out these great tricks:

  1. Invest in Some Cool House Numbers: switch out tired old digits for few snazzy new ones. House numbers can be glued or screwed in easily.
  2. Upgrade the Front Door Hardware: it’s easy and cheap to replace things like bells, doorknockers, keyholes and knobs at hardware stores and flea markets. Choose accents with the same finishes and make sure they match your home’s stylistic design.
  3. Repaint or Stain a Wood Door: if it’s not in your budget to buy a new door, update your existing one. Remove the door, sand and dust the surface, then add primer and paint (or stain and varnish).
  4. Tidy up the Landscape: break out the pruners and trim overgrown hedges, edge walkways and pull up weeds. Mulch is also great to put around the base of trees or flowerbeds.
  5. Replace Light Fixtures: strategically placed lighting can go a long way. It highlights landscaping and other great things you’ve done to your home. Put in solar lights to save energy and maneuver easily.
  6. Upgrade the Mailbox: changing the mailbox can add personality to a home. A mailbox (whether freestanding or door-side) should cost you less than $50 and all you have to do is dig or drill a hole.
  7. Dress up (and Clean) Those Windows: cleaning windows can massively improve the view. Dish detergent or vinegar and a rag are all you need for this job. Mullions, moldings or decorative brackets can really make a your exterior pop as well.
  8. Wash Dirty Siding and Dingy Decking: use your garden hose on a medium spray setting, a long handled scrub brush and a bucketful of water mixed with dish soap.
