8 Frugal Tricks for Prom Season

Oh, prom. While it can be an exciting milestone in one’s life, it can also be an expensive one (probably more so for one’s parents). With the cost of dresses, tuxes, photos, accessories, hair care services and more, prom can certainly cost a pretty penny. However, coming from someone who once bought a beautiful prom dress for $17 (yes, I had frugal inclinations even at the age of 15!), prom can be done on the cheap. Take a look at some great money-saving prom tips from Everything Finance:

  1. Do Your Own Grooming: hair, makeup and nails shouldn’t be a problem to get done on your own. You can even gather a group of girlfriends and do each other’s hair, makeup and nails. Just be prepared in advance with online photos and/or magazines to have an idea of what you want for styles.
  2. Use Simple Floral Tricks: you could try your hand at making your own boutonnieres and corsages. Or you can get these at your local grocery store for much cheaper than you would at the local florist.
  3. Buy Gift Cards at Discount Prices: for things like prom dresses, shoes, flowers and other essentials, you can check out sites like Gift Card Granny and Plastic Jungle for major retailers.
