If you’re looking in the mirror thinking that you need a little help in the style department, then we’ve got some great tips for you courtesy of Prevention. The good news is that if you’re looking to look younger and thinner (and who isn’t?) all it takes are a few simple tricks and tips. You won’t need a whole new wardrobe, or have to worry about shedding pounds in a hurry, to look and feel great.
- Wear a Well-Fitting Bra:
- Show Off Your Shoulders:
Did you know that your shoulders are one of the body parts that’s the slowest to age? So if you wear wide-neck, scooped neckline shirts, you’re putting a flattering part of your body on display. Also, according to style expert Kim Johnson Gross:
[I]f your bust is large, opt for V-necks for a hint of super-flattering clavicle and décolletage to help you look less top heavy.
- Ditch the Pleated Pants:
Flat-front pants can slim your stomach and make your legs appear longer at the same time. So choose these kinds of pants to seem taller and better proportioned
- Wear Tops That Distract or Slim:
If you’re concerned about extra weight in your midsection, make sure you’re wearing your shirts untucked for a more flattering look. You can also opt for long blouses or dresses with empire waists to highlight the slimmest part of your body (just below the bust). Tops with embellishments across the chest can also take attention away from the torso area.
- Roll Up Your Sleeves:
Rolling up your sleeves can highlight the thinnest part of your arm (from elbow to wrist), giving the illusion of a more slender shape. Three-quarter-length sleeves can achieve this effect as well.
- Keep Your Jeans Current:
Nothing can age a women like a pair of mom jeans. So to appear younger and remain stylish, opt for high-waisted slim fits and dark washes to make thighs and legs in general appear slimmer.
- Use the Power of Shapewear:
Flatten and smooth your tummy by wearing a long fitted cami under blouses and dresses that provides coverage to your hips. Or you can opt for a high-waited breif that extends up to your bra band. Try the same trick to slim your thighs by using knee-length bike shorts under skirts, dresses and pants.
A bra that actually correctly can change everything. If you are wearing bras that don’t fit, your breast will sag lower than they should – thus doing no favors for your figure. It can also emphasize the look of “back fat.” So make sure, if you haven’t (or haven’t in a while), that you go get a free bra sizing/fitting at your local intimates store. It can completely change the way your clothes fit, and how you feel about your overall look.
