6 Hidden Cost of Buying a House

When looking into purchasing your first house, the thrill and excitement you feel can easily cause you to look over some of the other associated costs involved in the whole process. You want to make sure you’ve saved appropriately so that those ugly fees don’t pop up and find you unprepared. Here are a few of the costs you may be overlooking:

Closing Costs

These can easily add up to $5,000 or $10,000. Be sure to ask the Title Company for a detailed estimate of these fees prior to closing. Also, look into negotiating some of these fees down or away.

Initial Home Expenses

There are certain things that renters don’t have to worry about buying, such as a refrigerator, washer, dryer or dishwasher. Other things are bound to come up too, i.e. curtains and window treatments. You also need to factor in things like moving expenses and storage costs.

Property Taxes

These taxes are paid yearly to your local government. Your lender may set up an escrow account for you and include 1/12 of the estimated property taxes with each monthly payment; then they pay them when they come due. These taxes include:

School district taxes
County taxes
City taxes, if you live within the city limits
