5 Home Remedies for Eczema

Eczema is an irritating skin condition that affects a lot of people. Symptoms include red, itchy, irritated skin and, at times, small fluid-filled bubbles on the skin. If you suffer from eczema, you have the ability to sooth your symptoms with home remedies. Take a look at a few of them courtesy of New Self Sufficient Living:

  • Aloe Vera: the raw gel is the absolute best to use. Here’s how to extract it from an aloe plant:

To extract gel from the plant, simply cut off a leaf with a sharp knife. Next place the leaf on a cutting board and slice off the tip and both sides. Place your hand flat on top of the leaf and with the blade in a horizontal position slice the top of the leaf off. Now you can scrape out the gel. Place it into a cup and stir it around a little to break the gel up.

Then, apply gel directly to skin. You don’t need to wash it off because it will create a helpful protective coating over your skin as it dries.

  • Coconut Oil: this helps to soothe itchy skin and reduce inflammation. Works great for eczema symptoms.
  • Chamomile: try brewing a cup of chamomile tea and using the warm teabag as a compress to sooth the irritated skin.
  • Manuka Honey: this stuff has strong antibacterial properties that can reduce the risk of infection when skin has been affected by eczema. Apply honey to skin for some deep moisture and to reduce itching as well.
