Here Are the Top 5 Cities Most Likely to Have a White Christmas Each Year

When we picture Christmas time, most people will imagine a snowy scene with trees lit up and beautifully wrapped presents galore. And while glowing strings of lights and thoughtful gifts are likely to be everywhere this holiday season, not everyone will be experiencing that iconic blanket of snow.

There are, of course, some places in the country and the world that just don’t experience traditional wintertime weather on Christmas. It might be winter in Los Angeles, but it hasn’t snowed in L.A. since 1962, and late December is actually summertime in Australia!

Even in places that are used to snow during the holiday season, say cities on the East Coast, aren’t assured a White Christmas every year. The fickle weather hasn’t guaranteed a postcard-worthy Christmas scene in recent years, which can be disappointing to some of us who associate a blanket of snow with the holidays.

But there are some areas of the United States that are luckily (or unluckily, depending on how you feel!) looking at a potential White Christmas!

Here are the Top 5 cities in the U.S. that are most likely to experience snow on Christmas, according to AccuWeather:

5. Buffalo, New York

Coming in at number five is Buffalo, New York. This city actually has the highest December snowfall out of any location on this list, with an average of 27.4 inches.

Still, Buffalo only has a 47% chance of experiencing snow for Christmas.

4. Detroit, Michigan

The Motor City is just north enough that it regularly sees a White Christmas. But even with a typical average of 7.8 inches during the month of December, Detroit is only looking at a 47% chance of holiday snowfall.

3. Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Somewhere in between Detroit and Buffalo for average December snowfall is Milwaukee, with 10.6 inches. However, the Brew City is still tied with numbers four and five on this list with a 47% chance of a Christmas snow.

2. Denver, Colorado

Number two on the list, with a 50% chance of a White Christmas, is Denver, Colorado. Typically, this western city accumulates 8.7 inches of snow during the month of December and has a 50/50 chance of a snowy holiday.
