If you travel a lot of business and are stuck in hotel rooms often with no great, cheap food options, this might be the article for you. In order to create some hot meals and snacks, you’ll just need to use some of the appliances provided by your hotel room, i.e. a coffee maker and an iron. Check out some ideas to try on your next hotel stay to save some money while enjoying hot food:
- Oatmeal in the Coffee Maker: create a hearty bowl of delicious oatmeal with a few simple ingredients and a plain old coffee maker. Just put two packets of oatmeal into the carafe, add in a packet of honey, a packet to fruit jam and a pinch to salt (all optional). Add an herbal tea bag to the filter basket (the example in the video below uses an orange flavored tea bag) and pour 8-10 ounces of water into the coffee maker. Turn the machine on and get ready to enjoy great oatmeal in about 5 minutes:
- Steam Veggies in the Coffee Maker: put veggies like carrots or broccoli in the filter basket of the coffee maker. Then run water through the coffee maker a few times to achieve your desired tenderness.
- Make Instant Rice in the Coffee Maker:
Run the appropriate amount of water, per the instructions on the rice package, through the coffee maker and then add the rice to the coffee pot. Leave the burner on until the rice has thoroughly cooked and absorbed most of the water.
- Grilled Cheese Sandwich with an Iron: for this trick, you’ll need aluminum foil to help you cook the sandwich with the iron provided by your hotel.
