Despite what Kermit says, it isn’t that difficult to be green. Take a look at some super simple “recipes” from the Go Frugal Blog for making your own frugal basics in the home:
- Tortilla Chips: this is a great way to use up stale flour or corn tortillas. Cut them up into triangles and toss them with a tablespoon of oil. Sprinkle with a bit a salt and bake them at 350 degrees in the oven for 8-10 minutes. You can even dress the chips up further by adding lime juice, cumin and chili powder.
- Shopping Bag: turn an old t-shirt inside-out. Sew the bottom part closed and then turn it right side out again. Cut the arms out (and perhaps save them as cleaning rags) and cut out the neck. You’ll have created a great bag with 2 handles.
- Ant Repellent: you can use cloves, bay leaves, cinnamon or black pepper as barriers to keep ants out. Try out each and see what works best for your particular problem.
- Lawn Spray: mix together 1 cup of baby shampoo, 1 cup of ammonia, 1 can of beer and 1/2 cup of corn syrup in a 20-gallon hose-end sprayer. Fill to the top with warm water and soak your grass with spray once a month to keep it green and healthy.
