13 Things You Shouldn’t Put in the Microwave

There are some no brainers that you know you shouldn’t put in the microwave (like aluminum foil, unless you want to start a fire). But there are some things in this Buzzfeed video that surprised us about one of our favorite kitchen appliances.

While there are a ton of things you can do with your microwave, there are some things that you should absolutely keep out of it. And don’t be embarrassed if you didn’t know some of these microwave don’t’s…there are a few things that we have definitely microwaved before on this list.

No shame, we’re all learning together.

From random food, to containers, to various types of plastic, there are some pretty shocking things that happen when you attempt to microwave these odds and ends.

While some of these things might just make a mess in your microwave (I cannot even begin to count how many times I’ve microwaved sauce without something on top and suffered the messy microwave afterwards) there are also some more serious consequences.

Namely? Smoke, fire, bacteria, and worse.

We won’t give away any of the surprises, you’ll have to check out the Buzzfeed video below for that, but we will share with you the one item we found most surprising…nothing. No, literally, nothing. Accidentally turning on the microwave with nothing inside will actually damage your microwave.

The more you know, right? Now watch the video below and microwave safely, friends.
