Here’s What Happens to Gifts Sent to the Royal Children from the Public

What Christmas gifts do you give to the kids who have everything? Well, if you’re an admirer of Britain’s Royal Family, apparently anything and everything! Every year, thousands of commoners send presents to members of the monarchy, with tiny Prince George and Princess Charlotte being the “recipients of the moment.”

Now, it’s awfully nice that so many members of the public want to show their love and adoration for the littlest royals, but this plethora of presents isn’t something that makes their parents feel all that comfortable.

Sources close to Prince William and Duchess Kate stress that the couple is hell-bent on their children not becoming stereotypes—i.e. spoiled brats. Because of this, the two have taken quite the strong stand against unnecessary frills, which means that their 4-year-old and 2-year-old won’t be seeing many of these well-wishers’ gifts.

But, just because the trinkets may not end up being handled by a teeny royal, doesn’t mean they will lose their purpose. You see, the gifts that aren’t taken into Kensington Palace (if you’ve been paying attention that’s almost all of them!) will be donated to needy children.

A representative confirmed this noble plan in a statement to MailOnline:

On occasion, and where appropriate, items may be donated to organisations who can make good of [the presents]. Their Royal Highnesses are incredibly grateful for the warm and generosity that has been extended to their children from the members of the public.

So, although your gift to Prince George or Princess Charlotte may not exactly make it through the doors of Kensington Palace, it must feel good to know that it might end up in the home of a child who needs it just that much more.

Prince George’s humble Christmas request

Recently, we gave you the scoop on what made it onto Prince George’s Christmas list—and, boy was it surprising!

As we mentioned, Will and Kate are trying their darndest to raise down-to-earth kiddos, but we were still surprised to learn that their eldest child’s list for Santa only contained one small gift, a toy police car.

Cameras were there to catch Prince George and his dad delivering his list to Santa Claus in Helsinki earlier this month. “He’s been extremely keen to see you,” Prince William said to Saint Nick. “He hasn’t written down many requests, so I think one request is probably OK!”

It was quite the endearing moment, but now we’re just a tad worried for the little Prince. If he’s just getting one present from Santa and NO presents from the public, won’t he be left feeling lonely and deprived?

Wait, what are we saying? This kid is set to be the future King of England one day. Something tells us both he and his sister will be just fine! To learn even more about this holiday gift plan AND see pictures of our favorite little royals, be sure to watch the video below.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on Will and Kate’s parenting plan. Do you agree with their decision to keep the public’s gifts from their kids? Do you limit the amount of Christmas presents that your children receive from friends and family members? If so, how do you enforce the rule?
