This Looks Like Normal Wedding Cake — On One Side

When it comes to weddings, one of the most challenging things for the bride and groom is finding a middle ground between their different tastes. The groom might like things minimalistic, but the bride might prefer bright colors and lots of pizzazz. It’s up to the happy couple to craft a wedding that represents BOTH of them, which isn’t an easy feat!

Newlyweds Kia Parsons and Billy Bunnings came across this very problem: the two wanted completely different things for their wedding.

Kia wanted a big white wedding, with a traditional, elegant feel. On the other hand, her fiance Billy is a comic book fanatic and wanted everyone dressed up in cosplay costumes matching their favorite super hero or villain.

Needless to say, the bride couldn’t quite get on board with her husband-to-be on that one. But, like good couples do, the two came to an amazing compromise — and now their idea for incorporating Billy’s love of comics has gone very viral!

The compromise, as you might have guessed, had to do with the most delicious part of any wedding: the cake.

Billy and Kia turned to Julia Baker from Tier By Tier cake design to help them create a cake that represented both of them for their special day. Julia helped them come up with a fantastically clever idea — splitting the cake! One-half would be “Kia,” the other “Billy.”

But when the guests first saw the wedding cake at the Parsons/Bunnings wedding in Milton Keynes, England on August 14th, it looked simply like an elegant white floral design. It basically looked like Kia’s dream wedding, summed up in a cake, but Billy’s dream wedding was nowhere to be found.

Right off that bat, the couple was disappointed. They had gone to Tier By Tier for a very specific cake and now only one-half of their vision was being represented. But then they were told to turn the cake around.

On the back side of the cake, the white fondant design parts like a curtain. Underneath the elegant flowery design is an entirely different cake — a cake fit for a superhero! Each of the four layers was made to look like a different comic book character: Captain America, Spider-Man, Batman, and Iron Man.

It had been a clever surprise Julia thought would really make the cake special! The photo of the cake went viral across the internet and some people are in LOVE with this nerdy idea:

“Your wedding day and cake is an expression of the couples own personality and style. Their guests will be talking about this cake for a long time!”

Others, though, don’t like the “non-traditional” take on this half-and-half wedding cake:

“Absolutely ridiculous, things are getting so way out of hand, what are we planning, ‘Can you top this?’ Go back to the way weddings used to be, about the bride and groom, their marriage vows and their future together. Not on how to out do another’s wedding.”

What do you think about this unusual wedding cake? Do you like how the bride and groom shared the cake or do you hate this idea?
