I have also used a mascara wand in an appropriate shade for just a slight
touchup.

Do they have shades for blond hair? I tried one of the mascara like wands with
coloring, but it ended up being just a messy mess in my fine hair. I am more
than willing to concede that it might have been just me, but I felt I had wasted
my money on that one.

This is a great idea. I wish I'd thought of it, or known about it sooner. I
hate spending money to keep the roots colored and my hair grows so fast!

I've been doing this for years and it is very cost effective because one box
bought on SALE with a coupon can be used for months of touch-ups, it is not as
messy to mix or apply as regular hair dye and it works in much less time. (Duh-
it is a product made for men by men)
BTW It is a very strong dye so make sure you cover your exposed skin with
petroleum jelly or oil so that it doesn't get stained.

I have to do my roots every 2-3 weeks because my hair grows fast and I'm almost
100% gray, so this should save me some money. Thanks.

I am so glad you wrote a review on the Just for Men to touch up ladies hair. I
have been meaning to try that but have not as yet. Now that I know it works, I
will try it.

Don't use this if you have small children in your home or grandchildren that
visit. It is full of lead, just the residue left on your bathroom sink can be
dangerous.

When I need to do a touch up,I make up just a small amount of color, using the
ratio of color and deveoper that's given for an allergy test. Most are 1 1/2 to
1.For example,1 1/2 tsps. color to 1 developer.Then close lid to bottle.I can
make as much or as little as I need.A box of dye lasts me several months this
way.

You can ALSO do root touch-up cheap by going to Sallys Beauty store & get a
2 oz bottle of "whatever" permanent color you need. 1-time buy of a
L. cream developer & a bottle to mix in. I do this & each 2 oz color
lasts at least 3 touch-ups AND it's less than $5!:)

I tried Just For Men beard dye as you suggested.I was a little afraid to put it
on my hair fearing a disaster, but it came out great. My subborn grays around my
hairline dyed beautifully, even better than my regular hair color! What a great
idea! Thanks for sharing.

Okay, this is brilliant! Thank you so much for the tip! I've been using
Clairol Root Touch Up which I have to leave on for 15 mins instead of the
recommended 10, and even then it leaves me more with metallic highlights. I also
tried QuickTint but it's clumpy and the applicator broke. Just For Men I only
left for 5 mins and it was perfect! Also great is that it's a gel, so it's a
lot less messy and you can really control exactly where it goes. Shhh....nobody
tell the manufacturer. They'll re-package it for Women and charge twice the
price!

Root touch-up: A male hairdresser told me he did his own mid-month touch up by
mixing 1 Tablespoon of each solution from a home hair color kit in a small bowl
and applied the color to his hairline, temples, and part with his fingertips
leaving the color on the normal length of time. That is about the right amount.
You can vary the amount if you need more solution. The remaining bottled
solutions remain good as long as they are not mixed together. Store the box in
a cool place. Use the remainder at your scheduled next full-hair color
treatment. Perfect match every time. Works great, no extra cost at all.

Tried the Just for Men-my advice is don't use it! Perhaps it is okay on
shorter hair, but on my longer hair-NO! Even though you are doing just root
touch up, it obviously flows through all your hair when rinsing. My hair had a
terrible texture after.

You could also find a Cosmotology school which is so much cheaper and you get a
professional color and/ or cut and it is MUCH cheaper!! Plus you need to be
careful when doing your own color as some colors that are bought at the school
have metallic dyes in them which when mixed with other dyes WILL cause your hair
to boil!!

A follow up on my earlier comment: while you can use one box for multiple
applications, I've discovered that the color loses potency after being opened.
Probably you can get two uses, maybe 3 weeks apart, and that's about it.

After coloring my own hair for several years, I decided that I was through
looking like I did my own hair. (what a messy chore it was, too~)
I found a good colorist, and although it's definitely an expense every month, I
cut back in other areas so that I can afford it.
You CAN afford it if you WANT to afford it.
Seriously, nothing shouts 'cheap' like a home color job gone wrong or when you
do it yourself for so long that the color on the ends looks much darker than the
top.
