High school pep rallies are supposed to be a fun activity where students can let loose during an otherwise routine, ho-hum day. Once you get past the customary speeches, it’s party time!
At Whitmer High School in Toledo, Ohio, their homecoming pep rally started out like any other. Students were gathered in the bleachers, the band and mascots were ready on the gym floor, and the principal was giving his speech.
Or so he thought. Music interrupted his address, and Bruno Mars’s Uptown Funk began blaring through the speakers. You know what means? Party time! The principal was ushered off the floor to make way for a surprise flash mob. And it wasn’t a bunch of kids who were dancing together, but teachers!
They jumped right into it at the line, “This here’s that ice cold, Michelle Pfeiffer – that white gold. . .” and got the crowd warmed up with the first verse. But by the time the song reached the first round of the chorus, more teachers joined in. And the cheering got a whole lot louder.
Watching this, you may be fooled into thinking that this was an all-female flash mob. Nope. Not only did the guys let uptown funk them up, but so did the mascots. Say what? The floor was packed with gyrating, arm-shaking, two-stepping teachers!
Sorry, Mr. Principal, but things had to swing in a more fun direction. As if the energetic choreography wasn’t enough, the group formed a Soul Train line. Half lined up on the left, and the other on the right, taking turns doing their own thing down the center.
You’ll love the moves from the school officer and the guy in the suit, but the scene-stealer is another teacher who knows how to do the worm. The worm, y’all. Somebody had to be a B-boy back in the day to be able to perfectly execute that dance. We see you!
This amazing routine was organized by teacher Katie Peters, who it seems is the one in front of the enthusiastic mob. When the music starts to wind up, teachers, faculty, and the homecoming court have gathered on the floor, and the students are smiling and having a blast.
It would be hard not to catch the school spirit with a pep rally like that. For these cool teachers to put on a show for these kids is something they’ll never forget. I can’t imagine what it felt like for the seniors in the building who will be moving on from this setting. It’s their last homecoming during their last year of school. Such memories.
