We’ve told you about some pretty fascinating couples over the years, from bizarre Hollywood pairings to a young husband and wife who reconnected and fell in love 11 years after meeting through a charity box program when they were just children. We know—completely different scenarios, but romantic just the same!

Obviously, we’re suckers for love, no matter what it looks like, which is why we’re taking the time to tell you all about the Hallquists, a California couple who has managed to garner quite a bit of attention for one reason and one reason alone—their heights!

Back in 2010, Stockton husband and wife, Wayne and Laurie Hallquist, were inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records for being the tallest living married couple in the world.

So, just how tall are the Hallquists, exactly? Well, Laurie stands at 6 feet 5.95 inches and Wayne measures out to 6 feet 10.4 inches—that’s a combined height of 13 feet 4 inches. Now THAT’S tall!

The vertically-inclined couple first started dating after meeting in a Sunday school class and were married just 6 months later. Of course, they recognized they were much taller than the average husband and wife, but they didn’t know that they were one-of-a-kind until Wayne’s sister sent them a newspaper article featuring the then-reigning world’s tallest living married couple.

When Wayne and Laurie realized that they beat out the British husband and wife by an inch, they knew there was only one thing to do—take what was rightfully theirs!

So, the Hallquists contacted Guinness and, once their heights were confirmed by the organization, officially became the tallest couple in the world for the years 2010 to 2013. Although it’s been half a decade since the husband and wife held their title, they tell Sacramento news station KTXL that they still like to flaunt their celebrités.

“[The Guinness title] kind of brings this extra level of coolness to us. So, that’s why we kind of have fun with it,” Laurie says. The Hallquists admit that they love when people come up to them in public, so don’t be shy. In fact, they may just give you a souvenir for doing so!

Alas, all good things must come to an end, which is exactly what happened to the Hallquists in 2013, when their title was taken out from under them by a Chinese husband and wife.

The couple, Sun Mingming and his wife Xu Yan, beat out the Hallquists by more than 6 inches! Sun Mingming, who currently holds the world record for being the world’s tallest basketball player, is 7 feet 8.98 inches, while Xu Yan, a professional handballer, stands at 6 feet 1.74 inches. Impressive stuff!
