Surprising Discovery About Red Wine and Fat

If you’re a lover of red wine, then Vine Pair has some excellent news to share. There’s yet another reason to love red wine now. According to new research, a glass of wine can actually help you burn fat (yes, you read that correctly). Researchers found that ellagic acid, which is found in grapes, has the power to slow the growth of existing fat cells and formation of new ones.

In the study that was conducted, overweight mice were given extracts of the Pinot Noir grape, equaling about 1/2 a cup of wine. Here’s what happened:

Over the course of a ten week period, one group of mice was fed a high fat diet without the addition of Pinot Noir, while the other group received both high fat foods and the Pinot Noir extract. At the end of the experiment, it was discovered that both groups of mice had developed fatty liver and diabetic symptoms, which is common in obesity, but the mice who were also fed the Pinot Noir had symptoms that were much less severe. The mice had much lower blood sugar levels and had accumulated less fat in their livers.

Now while this is exciting information, it doesn’t mean that drinking red wine is the answer to burning fat (unfortunately). Exercise is still the best medicine in this regard. However, it does seem that adding a glass of red wine to your diet on a daily basis could help if you’re trying to keep weight off.
