How to Make the Perfect Deviled Egg Appetizer for Halloween

There are few foods I love as much as deviled eggs, but I’ve always thought of them as more of a summertime appetizer. That was before I saw this creepy, crazy cool idea from Yoyomax12, though, and now I think they’re perfect for Halloween! She creates a spider web effect right on the egg whites that you absolutely have to see to believe, then tops it with an all-natural spider for an extra spooky effect. You have to watch how it’s made.

You’ll Need

– 12 hardboiled eggs
– 4 cups frozen blueberries
– 8 cups cold water
– 1/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
– 5 teaspoons sugar
– 5 teaspoons cider vinegar
– 1 teaspoon prepared mustard
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon pepper
– Olives

How To

  1. Place the eggs in a pot and cover with the cold water. Add the blueberries and heat on high until boiling.
  2. Immediately upon reaching full boil, immediately cover and remove from the heat. Allow to sit for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the eggs and drain on a paper towel.
  4. Give each egg a hard rap with the back of a spoon, then flip them over and repeat on the other side.
  5. Place the cracked eggs back into the water with the blueberries and refrigerate until cold, at least two hours.
  6. Peel the eggs, slice lengthwise, and remove the yolks. Set the whites aside.
  7. In a small bowl, mash the yolks with a fork and mix with the mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, mustard, salt and pepper. Pipe the mixture into the whites.
  8. Cut each an olive in half. Slice one of the halves into eight “legs” and use the other half as the “body.” Top an egg with the olives to form a spider shape. Repeat for as many eggs as you want.

The great thing here is that you can use your favorite deviled egg recipe. All you need to do to achieve the spider effect is boil them with the blueberries and add the olives! It’s blowing my mind that this method works. Have you ever seen anything like this web effect before? Do you think you’ll give it a try?
