See Why They Love Living on a School Bus

Mobile homes have been experiencing a surge in the love they receive from all over the world. DIYers keep showing us how to do tiny home conversions on vans, box trucks, and every species of bus available. And they’re nailing it.

Jumping in on the trend are couple Justine and Ryan, with Justine giving viewers a detailed look inside their mobile crib. The pair spent about two years transforming an old school bus into a decked out RV, with smart creature features for them and their furry family members.

As the video opens, Justine steps up into the main floor of the bus. When did school buses gain so much headroom? You’ll notice that the interior is painted white and all of the windows are still open and intact, giving the space a roomier feel. Smart move!

Built into their cleverly designed bookcase is their power source. You have to see how the book shelf works; this couple really thought of everything for their lifestyle. The kitchen includes a cool camp oven with a gas range sitting on top. Plenty of storage is outfitted in and around the cooking area, including a pantry. A cool dining room table flips into a full-size tabletop, creating more room for visitors.

The bus’s tiny bathroom has a shower and toilet with a sliding partition to separate it from the main living area. A curtain divides the other side of the bathroom from the bedroom, and provides additional privacy.

Situated in the very back of the bus is the bedroom. No tiny home would be complete without a bed on stilts. In this one, the bed is elevated on cabinets with an open space in between them. Justine and Ryan, thoughtful about their traveling pets, also installed two kennel units underneath the bed.

Justine explains that they decided to keep the emergency back door functional in the bus as an airy hatch. Used while they are parked, it allows more air to circulate freely through the home. Another smart addition? The rearview camera monitor that enables the driver to see what’s behind them at any given time.

A big consideration for this couple was that their home would be moving. When implementing their design, they made sure to include ways to keep things secure and stationary while the bus is rolling. Watch the video to find out about the ingenious ways they keep their belongings and pets from spilling out while on the move.

Now, the couple spends their days on the road, traveling across the country in their tiny mobile home. They chronicle their adventures on a blog called We Got Schooled, where they share stories about where they’ve been and life on the bus.

After seeing this bus, it’s hard to imagine how it looked in its old life as part of a transportation fleet. It looks amazing! What are your thoughts on this bright and airy mobile home? Would you chuck your stuff and make a life on the road? Tell us in the comments!
