Princess Charlotte Is Starting Nursery School in the New Year, but She’s Not Going to the Same School as Her Brother

My, how time flies! Princess Charlotte is two going on three, and is poised to start nursery school this month. It’s an exciting time for the royal toddler who is also about to be a big sister.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have chosen a school that is close to their Kensington Palace home in London. The palace shared the big news via Twitter:

“Their Royal Highnesses have also announced this morning that Princess Charlotte will attend the Willcocks Nursery School in London from January 2018.”

Willcocks Nursery has a reputation for having caring and kind teachers, and according to one parent testimonial “is a divine environment.” Located at Holy Trinity Church in London, the school caters to children who are between the ages of two and five.

In addition to academics like math, reading, and science, a variety of playful activities are available for the children to enjoy. It’s a possibility that Princess Charlotte will get to try out cooking, singing, acting, or gardening. And of course, there’s plenty of free play time! Don’t you wish you could go back to a simpler time like this?

However, Princess Charlotte won’t be matriculating as a full-time student just yet. She’ll attend morning school only for five days a week. The school’s website lists tuition at £3,050.00 (roughly $4,000 USD) per term for morning attendees. It is considerably more than the cost of Prince George’s nursery tuition at his old Montessori school in Norfolk, where he received his preschool education.

William and Kate’s approach to their children’s education is similar to Princess Diana’s. Prior to Prince William attending a Montessori school as a toddler, members of the royal family were educated within the walls of Buckingham Palace. In the past, private tutors provided early education.

Choosing to send Princess Charlotte and Prince George to local schools is a departure from tradition. As with Prince George, the duke and duchess are fairly confident Princess Charlotte will be in good hands. Willcocks has an all-female staff and the teacher to student ratio is 1:8, so she will receive a good amount of attention.

If the student testimonials on the school’s website are any indication, the adorable little princess will love it:

“I just love all my teachers because I just do. They are beautiful, they are kind and they all just love me.”

“When someone has a birthday they have cake.”

You had me at cake! Click on the video below from People to hear more about Willcocks Nursery and why the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge chose this school. With another child on the way, they will have their hands full with three sets of pitter-pattering feet in their home. But already, two of them are scholars!

As parents, these must be exciting times for the royal couple. Dropping off their little girl at school could be bittersweet, as it signifies how quickly the princess is growing up now that she’s a student. But her school sounds like so much fun that hopefully she (and her parents) will adjust without too many tears.

How does the princess’s nursery school sound to you? Do you have memories of dropping your little ones off for the first time at school? Were you happy-sad?
