Philanthropy on a Budget

Just because you may not have the money to donate to charities and such doesn’t mean you can’t do your part. There are many ways that we can give back to our communities and/or help the homeless without spending a penny. Here are some ideas from Gather Little by Little:

  • Serve Food: there are a ton of charities that are constantly looking for volunteers to serve food to the hungry or homeless. These groups don’t need your money, just your energy and effort.
  • Give Clothing: you can give used, but still nice clothing (perhaps clothing kids have grown out of) to organizations that will re-sell them. The proceeds from these sales go to all kinds of charity endeavors.
  • Give Hair: if you’re thinking about chopping off your long hair, try donating it to Locks of Love. The hair must be at least 10 inches long. Cutting your hair may be a big deal to you, but you could change someone’s life with this act of kindness. And your hair will grow back.
  • Give Blood: one pint of blood has the potential to save three lives. When a person is in need of a serious, emergency surgery, blood will be more helpful to them than money.

What are some ways that you contribute to charity efforts without spending money?
