Sparkly and new, some of these are stepping into the spotlight after eons of being hidden gems, some are mashups of more than one name, and others are admittedly weird. Check these girls’ names out!

1. Pippi

   Oh yes, the book character. The spirited and rebellious redhead with an adventurous streak could rub off on your little girl. Think about having a Pippi in your household.

2. Romola

   A Latin name taken from the masculine Romulus, it is the name of the main character in the book of the same name. She’s independent and smart.

3. Allegra

   Beautiful Italian name that means happy or joyful.

4. Kale

   You either love or hate this as a food, but if you’re a devoted fan of the green vegetable, then why not? Don’t let the kale haters stop you.

5. Amillion/Million

   Both versions have been used by a handful of parents over the past couple of years. If you think your child is worth this and much more, then pave the way to prosperity for her with this inventive moniker. You most definitely can glean some cute nicknames from this one: Millie, Amil, or Mils.

6. Maeby

   Comedy Arrested Development has a sort of cult following, and some of those fans have fallen in love with the character Maeby’s name. Just don’t go naming her twin Surely.

7. Lakelyn

   A mashup of the word Lake (which is becoming a name option on its own) and the addition of -lyn.

8. Story

   Everyone has one, but not everyone has this name. You can even give it a creative spelling: Stori, Storee, or Storie. Go for it!

9. Yoga

   Not many parents are using this one, but Yoga started gaining steam as a girl’s name just a few short years ago. Namaste, folks.

10. Amor

    In love with love? Here’s one way to express that love with the beautiful Spanish word for it.

11. Memphis

    Sure, it’s a famous city, but Memphis has Greek origins and is also found in the Bible. One of its meanings is “abode of the good”.

12. Dalary

    Created by Larry Hernandez, star of the reality show Larrymania.

13. Salem

    Don’t be put off by the witchy connotations of this Massachusetts city because in Hebrew, Salem means “peace”.

14. Zyana

    Of Hebrew origin, it means “blessing from heaven”. Before 2011, it wasn’t making any lists or charts for baby names, and is still barely used.

15. Twinkle

    Somewhere out there, a small number of parents have named their daughters Twinkle. If she reminds you of the brightest star or puts the “twinkle” in your eye, then put this one on your list.

16. Margherita

    This name is new to certain regions like England, but can be found in Italian and Spanish families and is a variation of Margaret.

17. Marvelous

    This one says it all, and yes some people have started using it as a real name. And it just so happens to be the name of a comic book superheroine too!

18. Onyx

    An ancient and dark stone, onyx is one of the birthstones for Leos. It’s gone from not being a child’s name to getting a few hits on the charts in 2016.

19. Blessence

    Two meanings combined through two words: blessing and essence. According to cafemom.com, it’s also the name of a maternity clothing line.

20. Zeplyn

    Rock and roll names are trendy right now, but how exactly do you create one? By putting a creative spin on a band’s name! Oh, and it starts with the rarely used letter “z”.

21. Metallica

    So far, a couple in Sweden are the only known parents to a little girl named Metallica, a nod to the famous heavy metal band.
