Painfully Nervous Woman Plows through Audition

Getting up in front of a crowd to speak or perform comes naturally to some. For others, it’s a delicate walk that could cause one to faint or flee.

When watching someone who is obviously nervous give it a go, you might feel nervous for them. I do. In the video below, you might catch the nerves. Emma Jones walked onto the stage of Britain’s Got Talent to give things a try, and she was in a state of pure angst. It was written all over her.

The 23-year-old spoke shyly to Simon about why she was trying out for the show, and said she just wanted to see if they liked her voice. Standing with one hand tucked into her sleeve and her face tilted down, Emma only nodded yes when Simon asked if she was nervous.

There was also a slight contortion in her face. Oh gosh, this was going to be uncomfortable. You can’t help but feel for the sweet young lady and be moved to give her a hug.

Bob Marley once sang “one good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” People have the ability to morph when music hits, and watching Emma, you learn she’s one of them. Her nerves didn’t disappear, but it was her voice that took over the entire space.

Emma stood straight up as the melody to “Ave Maria” began to play, poised to perform. There was a slight glimmer in her eye as she drew a few deep breaths. Audience members had their hands cupped to their mouths, looking hopeful and concerned for her. But as soon she closed her eyes and belted out the first line, everyone erupted into applause and smiles. Me too. Go girl!

Astonishing. A beautiful opera rose out from her spirit, enchanting the crowd and judges alike. Though still visibly a ball of nerves, Emma transformed in this moment. As her hands trembled while she gripped the mic, her voice was strong and steady.

Towards the end of her song, you could see her fill up with joy and a smile sneaked across her face. When that music hit her, you could see she felt no pain or fear. What an audition!

Emma told local U.K. newspaper The Cumberland News that among her inspirations was Susan Boyle, who decided to take big a chance too. In the interview, she spoke of how nervous and excited she was for her audition:

“Behind the stage it was like you were in a rocket. It was like I was ready to shoot off into space. It was really nerve-wracking. Every time the buzzer went it was so loud and that was a big moment for me. All this nervousness was flowing around my body. But as soon as I went onto the stage it was lift off. It was scary but so exciting at the same time.”
