Natural Insect Control

People aren’t the only ones who are ready to get out and enjoy the nice weather. Insects are out and about, but here are some methods from Shelterpop about how to keep pesky critters at bay.

  • Ants: you can control ants with homemade bait made from 2 tablespoons of peanut butter, two tablespoons of jelly and one tablespoon of boric acid. Put the bait in a small disposable container. To get rid of ant mounds outside, dampen the mound and then pour baking soda and white vinegar into it.
  • Mosquitoes: planting basil outside can repel mosquitoes and flies.
  • Spiders: kill spiders with a mixture of 40% water, 40% alcohol and 20% dish soap. Put the mixture in an inexpensive sprayer and spray on spiders.
  • Flies: fill a one gallon clear plastic zip top bag less than half way with water, then hang it near the top of your door to repel flies. Flies have compound vision, and when they see water they will think there are hundreds of flies around and will fly away.
