This is hands down the easiest, most foolproof way to frost an entire cake in 2 minutes. The icing on the cake is that you don’t need to invest in any special equipment — just your microwave and a can of your favorite store-bought frosting.

(And you’ll need a cake too, of course, unless you’re just planning on pouring the melted frosting directly into your mouth — in which case, we get it.)

Cake Frosting Made Easy
Prep: 1 Min | Total: 2 Mins
Serves: 1 frosted cake
Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients
Prepared cake (cooled)
1 can Store-bought frosting (depending on the size of your cake, you may need more than 1 can)
Equipment
Microwave
Cooling rack
Baking sheet
Food coloring (Optional) (any color)
Sprinkles (Optional)
Directions
Set the cooling rack on top of a baking sheet to catch the frosting drips. Place the cooled cake on the cooling rack.
Remove the lid and foil or plastic liner from the can of frosting. Microwave the frosting for 30 seconds, then check to see if it's liquid enough to pour. (You may need to microwave it a few seconds longer.)
The microwaved can of frosting may be hot to the touch, so handle it carefully. If you want colored frosting, add a few drops of food coloring to the frosting, and stir until the color is uniform. (For a tie-dyed or marbled effect, don't mix the food coloring in all the way so that there are still streaks of white.)
Pour the liquid frosting over the top of the cake. Hold the can near the edges to thoroughly coat the sides of the cake.
Decorate the cake with sprinkles, if desired.

Here at TipHero, we’ve made so many cookies and brownies that we could do it with our eyes closed. But whenever we bake a cake, for some reason we always feel like the pressure is on. Maybe it’s because no one bakes a cake simply because they feel like eating cake— although, come to think of it, that should change. Usually when we’re baking a cake it’s for a special celebratory occasion, so we want it to be perfect.
