Make Your Own Chalkboard Paint in Any Color

Chalkboard paint is a nifty little invention that can help you create labels on bottles or planters, make coasters that you can write on, decorate picture frames and much, much more. And better news yet: if the hardware store doesn’t have the color of chalkboard paint that you want, you can make your own with 2 simple ingredients.

Here’s how it’s done: Basically, you just grab some latex paint in the color of your choice. Combine 1 cup of that with 2 tablespoons of unsanded tile grout and mix together with a paint stirrer. When you apply the paint to the surface in question, just gently sand the layers of paint between coats with 150-grit sandpaper. To get the best results, be sure to add several coats to your surfaces.

Once you’ve got your paint, the sky’s the limit! Have fun painting things around your house, whether it’s making a to-do list in a frame or painting your child’s dresser so they can draw their art all over it!
