Kotex Tampons Recalled Due to a Quality-Related Defect

Ladies, it’s time to go into your bathroom, open your medicine cabinet, and take a close look at your box of tampons because popular tampon brand, Kotex, just initiated a recall. According to the feminine hygiene product maker, several lots of its U by Kotex® Sleek® Tampons, Regular Absorbency contain a defect that could put your health at risk.

In a statement on the U by Kotex® website, the company explained the scary defect:

Kimberly-Clark has received reports from consumers of the U by Kotex® Sleek® Tampons, Regular Absorbency, unraveling and/or coming apart upon removal, and in some cases causing users to seek medical attention to remove tampon pieces left in the body. There also have been a small number of reports of infections, vaginal irritation, localized vaginal injury, and other symptoms.

This voluntary recall includes all U by Kotex® Sleek® Tampons, Regular Absorbency manufactured prior to October 16, 2018. Apparently, this specific product was widely distributed throughout the United States and Canada.

You can determine whether or not your tampons are part of the recall by simply referencing the number printed on the bottom of the product’s package. Once you have located the lot number, plug it into Kimberly Clark’s medical device lot number checker on its website. If your lot number does, in fact, match up, contact Kimberly Clark at 1-888-255-3499 for further instructions. The company states that there is no need to return your package of U by Kotex® Sleek® Tampons, Regular Absorbency to its point of purchase.

If you have used these tampons and have experienced “vaginal injury (pain, bleeding, or discomfort), vaginal irritation (itching or swelling), urogenital infections (bladder and/or vaginal bacterial and/or yeast infections), or other symptoms such as hot flashes, abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting,” seek medical attention immediately.

What are your thoughts on this recall? Did you use this recalled product? If so, do you believe that you became injured by the faulty product? What is your favorite tampon brand?
