Learn Why These Twins Had to Hug it Out

When parents get the good news that they’re expecting, it’s received with joy and anticipation. It’s hugs, high-fives, and love all the way around. When the unanticipated happens during a pregnancy, it’s love that keeps everyone hopeful.

Twin pregnancies are exciting but can sometimes be fraught with unexpected risks. Hayley and Charlie Lampshire found out they were expecting mono-mono twins, a rare occurrence in the womb, and had to weather the unexpected with hope. What mono-mono means is that the fetuses shared both an amniotic sac and placenta, making for crowded and potentially unsafe quarters.

Such twins are always identical but have separate umbilical cords, increasing the risk of entanglement or crushing. Since nourishment and oxygen transfer through the cords is vital to the fetuses’ growth, close monitoring is needed during their development. The larger the babies get, the riskier it becomes.

After learning this news, the Lampshires were understandably worried about their two babies. According to the video by Inside Edition, their doctors told them the babies would need to be still in order to prevent complications. Hayley had ultrasounds every week or two to see how her twin boys were doing, and boy did she and her hubby get a sweet surprise.

Their sons, named Rowan and Blake, were seen embracing one another and holding hands. This wasn’t a one-time deal either. At each sonogram visit, the parents were comforted by seeing the two holding each other closely in the womb. All was well!

As is the case with most mono-mono pregnancies, at 34 weeks, Hayley delivered the twins by cesarean section. Both boys had to undergo special medical care right after birth, but today are a few months old and doing great. Check out the video to learn about their delivery.

Besides being incredibly adorable, their tight embrace helped to keep them safe as they continued to grow. Now that Rowan and Blake are out in the world, not much has changed in the brotherly love department. In an interview with Inside Edition, it was revealed how very close the boys are:

“They settle a lot better when they are together. . .They chat together [and] sleep in the same crib. They have a really good bond. They are healthy and happy.”

We all know that twins are undoubtedly close, with a loving bond that can’t always expressed through words. Science has shown that they absolutely do start forming a physical and social bond while still tucked away in mom’s belly. They reach for each other, touch one another, and like Rowan and Blake, even hug. It’s got to be one of the purest expressions of the love in the whole world!

Like the Wonder Twins from back in the day, when Blake and Rowan touched it activated their power to survive. Their cuddling helped give them life and gave reassurance to their parents too. There’s no denying the magic of the twin bond, and we’re sure these two will be huggers for life!
