Discount chains around the US are great for bargain seekers, but there are some ways you can hope to achieve further discounts at these retail giants. Consumer Reports came up with a list of 10 major retail chains and the ways you can get the best deals there. Here are just a few examples:

• JCPenney: this chain discounts its clearance merchandise 40% to 80% on its outlet. Here’ you can also sign up for email or mobile alerts for coupons and weekly deals.
• Sears: take advantage of their excellent price matching policy. If you buy something at Sears and find it at a lower price at another store in the area with 14 of purchase, Sears will match the price and even give you 10% of the difference. You can also check out the Sears Outlet site to find the deal of the day.
• Target: using a Target REDcard credit card or a REDcard debit card, you’ll receive 5% at checkout throughout the fall.
