How to Make Your Own Cream of Mushroom Soup
Cream of mushroom soup is not only enjoyed on its own; it’s frequently used in many recipes to add a nice flavor and creaminess (like in a lot of slow cooker recipes). And the homemade stuff is just so much better than the canned stuff (and it only takes about 5 minutes to mix up). $5 Dinners shows us how it’s done:
Here’s what you need:
-4 tbsp butter
-4 tbsp flour
-3 cups milk
-4 oz. fresh mushrooms, chopped
-salt and pepper to taste
-optional spices (garlic powders, minced onion, etc.)
Here’s what you do:
- Melt butter, then whisk in the flour to form a paste.
- Whisk in the milk and let sauce thicken over medium to medium low heat.
- Stir in mushrooms and let cook for a few minutes.
- Season soup to taste.
