How to Make the Perfect Latkes (and Doughnuts) for Hanukkah

Tonight at sundown will mark the first night of Hanukkah. Are you ready to get frying? Since I recently got married and my husband is Jewish, I’m looking forward to trying out some traditional recipes for Hanukkah this year. And latkes are a must for sure. Here’s what you need for the latkes themselves:

-4 russet potatoes, peeled
-1 yellow onion, minced
-3 large eggs lightly beaten
-1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoon all purpose flour
-2 tbs fresh minced chives
-1 garlic clove minced
-salt and pepper to taste (about 1 tablespoon salt and 1/2 tablespoon pepper)
-vegetable oil for frying

For the Lox Sauce:

-1 cup sour cream
-3 oz. lox, diced
-1 tbsp minced fresh chives

And for the cinnamon applesauce:

-1 cup applesauce
-1 tsp ground cinnamon
-1 tbsp brown sugar
-1 tsp ground ginger
