Forget Chinese Takeout— Make This Honey Chicken Instead!

Homemade always tastes better than anything you can get in a restaurant – it’s the extra love! – but there have always been some things we’ve only been able to get by ordering. At the top of that list: Chinese food! Thanks to this recipe from The Art of Cooking, though, we might be able to cross that one off. He’s showing us how to make Honey Chicken, and it’s got us throwing away our takeout menus. Check it out!

You’ll Need

– 1 pound chicken breast
– 1/2 teaspoon salt
– 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/8 to 1/6 teaspoon white pepper
– 3 tablespoons water
Honey Sauce
– 5 tablespoons ketchup
– 4 tablespoons sugar
– 3 tablespoons water
– 2 tablespoons honey
Batter
– 1 large egg
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
– 1/6 teaspoon garlic powder
– 10 tablespoons (1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons) cold water
– 2 teaspoons baking powder
– 1/2 cup cornstarch
– 3/4 cup flour
– 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
