Watch How Happy This 3-Year-Old Is In Music Class

I could use a smile today, could you? I think we all need a little pick-me-up, and luckily, we’ve found just the thing. It combines two of our favorite things, ones that are always guaranteed to brighten our day and make us feel just a little bit better about things: adorable children, and music!

They’re coming together in this music class of three-year-olds in Levittown, New York. While their teacher strums a guitar and sings, she instructs the little students to clap along to the beat of the music. Easy and simple enough, right? Well, to young children, nothing’s really simple— and that means everything is new and delightful. Check out the clip from Viral Hog in Rumble, and keep your eye on that little boy in blue, right up front and in the center.

How adorable and infectious is his reaction? The clapping, and then the sudden stopping of the clapping, seems like it’s pretty much the best thing that’s ever happened to him. Children aren’t known for their extensive attention spans, but he really seems like he could do this activity all day.

Sara Shonfeld, the creator of the Musical Minds program and the singing music teacher in this video, tells Viral Hog:

It was during music class with a group of 3-year-old kids. The laughing boy loved the surprising effect of the song. Clap and stop! Children enjoy learning through dynamic musical expressions and experiences. Learning can be entertaining too!

We just love the effect the simple musical game has on these kids— specifically the little boy in blue, but the whole class a whole. Studies have shown that music can be an instrumental – pun intended! – way to increase learning capabilities, helping to improve memory, increase concentration, enhance imagination, and release tension. It’s often called “The Mozart Effect,” and it’s pretty incredible. One of our favorite benefits of the effect, also mentioned in that study from John Hopkins University, is that music is a way to “create a desired atmosphere” and “align groups.” We see those benefits on display in this video. Just look at how that happy little boy in blue looks at his friend.

Just look at how happy he is to be sharing this moment with his friend! He’s not just enjoying the music, he’s enjoying it because he’s experiencing it with others. And isn’t that, ultimately, what music should be all about?

So however your day is going, whatever your life is like, we hope you’re able to find a moment of enjoyable connection with somebody today, maybe even through the power of music. May we all try to enjoy life as much as a little boy in blue, clapping along in music class.
